A Probe Into Language Aptitude In Second Language Acquisition

In recent years, language aptitude has been an important branch in the research field of the second language acquisition. Language aptitude is a relatively stable capacity which learners can show during they study the second language, so far, language aptitude can be considered to be one of the most predictive factors of individual differences in the foreign language acquisition. In the past two decades, most researchers put their focuses on the individual differences. Actually, the significance of language aptitude has reflected a crucial position in linguistic. In this paper, the author strove to seek the relationship of language aptitude and interaction hypothesis of language input in order to improve the language aptitude.In this article, the author explored the effect and influence of language aptitude in the second language acquisition based on the Modern Language Aptitude Test, interaction hypothesis and noticing hypothesis. In addition, the author put forward the main research questions:the relation between individual differences in language aptitude and second language acquisition during the researching process of second language acquisition; the relation between the teachers’class interaction and the students’personal language aptitude; the relation between learners’noticing of interaction and their subsequent linguistic development in terms of production. The theories concerning language aptitude were stated to complete the experiment designed in this paper and to solve the above problems.The purpose of this paper is to explore the relation between language aptitude and the outcome of learning under the differences individuals among the English students. The author picked up the juniors of English major in Daqing Normal College as research objectors, then selected the50English major students whose scores are between80-90points in a mid-term examination as testee. After a TOEFL reading test they were separated into two groups-Group A (score above80points) and Group B (score below80points). Then the testee was tested the Modern Language Aptitude Test. The test results showed that the language aptitude score of the Group A (the higher score group) is higher, while Group B (the lower score group) is lower. The author interactively taught the learners of Group B to understand and be aware of the methods of second language learning. Finally, the author tested the two groups’language aptitude. The result of this experiment demonstrates that1) language aptitude plays a positive role in the second language acquisition;2) interactive teaching may improve personal language aptitude;3) the learners strengthen attention and notice of second language acquisition may directly affect learning outcome.The results of this research show the close relationship between language aptitude and second language acquisition. Through the study of language aptitude, the research results indicate that language aptitude has a positive impact on second language acquisition; language aptitude of testee may be improved due to the addition of interactive teaching. To get better effect in English teaching, it’s necessary for teachers to grasp the differences language aptitude of students, little by little, and to teach students in accordance with their aptitude.
