Vocabulary learning is of great importance in language learning. To the freshmen in college, the changes of the learning methods, the learning material and the learning environments make it difficult for them to master a large amount of new words, which obstruct their English development. Even though they paid a great effort in vocabulary, the results are not satisfactory. Therefore, finding a method which can solve this problem is necessary.In view of this problem, the author employs experiment to explore the effectiveness of Cooperative Learning in English vocabulary teaching among college students. Through the quantitative and qualitative analysis on test scores and questionnaires, Findings show:firstly, Cooperative Learning can help students grasp a larger English vocabulary and improve their ability to use English which are better than those who learn individually. Secondly, this method also stimulates students’ learning interest and motivation, creates more opportunities of practice, involvement and communication for students, thirdly, it facilitates their active thinking and creates a better study atmosphere.And this dissertation will pay attention to the pragmatic study of Cooperative Learning in English vocabulary teaching among college students through the method of the quantitative and qualitative analysis and set out the overview of the pragmatic method to improve Chinese students’ language basic competence. And all the findings get out from test scores in two classes and their results of questionnaires.
