In senior high schools,most teachers have been adopting the traditional teaching method.Teachers have been the main leaders of English class,so students gradually become passive in studying.In view of the fact that the traditional teaching method is too simple to draw students' attention,a great number of students aren't interested in English any longer.More and more students begin to have difficulty in learning English.What's worse,some students even become afraid of learning English.In the face of this situation,not only is it difficult for teachers to achieve teaching objectives,but also it is hard for students to complete their learning tasks.As a consequence,for the development of students in physical and mental health,it is urgently needed to reform the traditional English teaching method in senior high schools.Group Cooperative Learning is a new teaching method advocated by the new curriculum concept,which is based on interpersonal relation and teaching situation.It is a highly creative and effective teaching theory and strategy,which is organized with the form of group activities.Therefore,according to the students' development in body and psychology,the author attempts to apply Group Cooperative Learning to English class in senior high schools.This paper focuses on the implementation and application of Group Cooperative Learning in English class.The research objects are Class 18 and Class 19 in Grade2 of NO.3 Senior High School in Wuhan.Class18 are taught with the traditional teaching method and Class 19 with Group Cooperative Learning method.The author attempts to get the experimental data with the methods of questionnaire survey,test,observation,interview and so on.Then the author will compare and analyze the statistics of the two classes.The results show that the students' marks have greatly improved with Group Cooperative Learning than ever before.Compared with the traditional teaching method,Group Cooperative Learning can remove students' anxiety and fear in their study.What's more,it contributes to stimulating students' learning initiative,excavating students'learning potential,cultivating students' team cooperative consciousness and enhancing students' learning efficiency.Finally we can draw a conclusion that the Group Cooperative Learning Model is feasible and effective in senior high schools.Of course,due to the gap between the theoretical level and teaching practice,there are still many problems needed to be improved and perfected constantly.
