This research project aims at studying Elizabeth Gilbert’s representative work-Eat, Pray, Love and Committed. Its theme will be fully illustrated from the concept of feminist analysis of Elizabeth Gilbert’s choices, which attach great importance to what modern women truly want from life, and their efforts to seek the balance of body, mind and spirit. To some extent, the outstanding writing techniques help to shed light on the feminist reading of the two books. What’s more, these choices exhibit the author’s belief that female’s search for self is of vital importance in modern society.Recent years, the popularity of Elizabeth Gilbert’s works has been witnessed by people all over the world. Eat, Pray, Love, has been regarded as the masterpiece of Elizabeth Gilbert. This beautifully written, heartfelt memoir touched a nerve among both readers and reviewers. Elizabeth Gilbert tells how she made the difficult choice to leave behind all the trappings of modern American success (marriage, house in the country, career) and find, instead, what she truly wanted from life. As the No.1New York Times bestselling follow-up to Eat, Pray, Love, the Committed is an intimate and erudite celebration of love. Told with Gilbert’s trademark wit, intelligence and compassion. Committed attempts to "turn on all the lights" when it comes to matrimony, frankly examining questions of compatibility, infatuation, fidelity, family tradition, social expectations, divorce risks and humbling responsibilities. Gilbert’s memoirs are ultimately a clear-eyed celebration of love with all the complexity and consequence that real love, in the real world, actually entails. In the two memoirs, Elizabeth Gilbert was faced with several difficult choices in her life. Elizabeth’s choices she made reflect her self-pursuit and her meditation on the meaning of marriage and love. So a research into her choices, from feminist perspective, can, to some extent, reveal the awakening of feminist consciousness among women.
