A Study On Lin Yutang's View Of Love And Marriage

The view of love and marriage refers to people's fundamental cognition and understanding of love and marriage,which will directly affect people's behavior of love and marriage.Influenced by life experience,personality psychology and education,different people will have different views of love and marriage.In the period of the republic of China,many scholars were puzzled by love and marriage,and their marriage life was not satisfactory.Based on Lin Yutang's life experience and literature,this paper explores the connotation and cause of Lin Yutang's view of love and marriage,and tries to explore the limitation and significance of Lin Yutang' s view of love and marriage under the social background.This paper is divided into three parts:The first chapter mainly discusses the connotation of Lin Yutang's view of love and marriage.Lin Yutang advocates the love based on human nature and the unity of spirit and flesh,but the pursuit of harmony makes him advocate the reasonable marriage.Lin Yutang emphasized that husband and wife should complement each other in character,he believed that the maintenance of marriage require the couple to trust,understand and support each other.Lin Yutang's view of love and marriage shows a distinct female consciousness.Firstly,he believes that woman can grow up by love,marriage and childbirth.Secondly,he believes the wisdom and courage of women can promote the harmony of the family,so they have an important position in their family.The second chapter mainly discusses the cause of Lin Yutang's view of love and marriage.Firstly,the intricate viewpoint of love and marriage in the Republic of China era and the love experience of scholar in the same period had an important influence on Lin Yutang.Secondly,the harmonious family life and the love experience made Lin Yutang have the initial view to the family and the marriage.Finally,Lin Yutang's personality and view of love and marriage was influenced by Confucianism,Taoist,Su Dongpo and Christian.The third chapter mainly discusses the limitation and modern significance of Lin Yutang's view of love and marriage.As a product of a specific era,Lin Yutang's views of love and marriage have certain limitations.For example,he defined women as good wife and good mother,and he thought the existence of the concubine is reasonable.However,Lin Yutang's view of love and marriage have limitations,his thinking on the issue of marriage and fertility is still enlightening.
