Fei Ming’s Study Of Du Fu’s Poetry

This thesis bases on the study of Du Fu’s poetry, and aims to explore the value ofDu Fu’s poetry and the unique features of Fei Ming’s study of Du Fu’s poetry. On theone hand, I hope this thesis could be a beneficial supplement to Fei Ming’s study ofDu Fu’s poetry. One the other hand, I hope this thesis could enrich our understandingof Du Fu’s poetry. This thesis contains four chapters:Chapter one mainly introduces Fei Ming’s life, works and study of Du Fu’sPoetry. Moreover, it has summarized the present research status and research meaningof Fei Ming’s study of Du Fu’s poetry.Chapter two mainly introduces Fei Ming’s study on the poet Du Fu. Basing onthe interpretation the poetry, Fei Ming has discussed Du Fu’s love for the commonpeople, and his ideology and character fully. Fei Ming beholds that Du Fu’s poetry isintegrated with his personality charm:“The value of Du Fu’s poetry includes twoaspects, one is the beauty of the poetry, and the other is the ‘true’ of his personality.”Moreover, this chapter attempts to discuss Fei Ming’s view on Du Fu’s ideology thatdoes not belong to the Confucian Ideology.Basing on Du Shi Jiang Gao, chapter three introduces Fei Ming’s study of DuFu’s poetry. Fei Ming discussed different verse forms of Du Fu’s poetry, includingancient five-character poetry, regulated verse, ancient seven-character poetry andquatrain, and he discussed ancient five-character poetry in detail. Moreover, Fei Minghas studied the poetry according to different periods and places and presented thechanges of Du Fu’s poetic styles. This chapter aims to present Fei Ming’s poeticthoughts and his understanding of the value of Du Fu’s poetry.Chapter four mainly introduces methods and unique features of Fei Ming’s study.As regards the methods, comments is Fei Ming’s concern, and he often discusses thepoetry with Du Fu’s and the other poets’ poems. As for the unique features, Fei Mingemphasizes the theme as well as the language. Moreover, Fei Ming not only uses theformers’ annotation for reference but also criticizes the formers’ annotation. This chapter has commented the research methods and unique features of Fei Ming’s studyof Du Fu’s poetry. This chapter includes two parts which expound from researchmethods and unique features separately for convenience. However, it is difficult toseparate methods from features clearly.
