Lexical cohesion is widely used in both English and Chinese, which guaranteesthe semantic coherence and clear logical relations of the whole text. A competentinterpreter usually has a better understanding of the means of lexical cohesion andclearly knows how to apply them in interpretation, and thus improve the interpretationquality.This paper used the interpreted and reinterpreted versions of Premier Li keqiangAnswering the Press during the Two Sessions in2013for study. By raising examples,this paper firstly introduces how lexical cohesion is used in both Chinese and Englishand how it is classified and through comparative analysis of the two interpretations,the paper found out the differences in handling lexical cohesion in Chinese betweenprofessional interpreter and student interpreter and tried to figure out the reasons.This paper consists of four chapters: task description, process description, casestudy and summary. The first two chapters are the general descriptions of the wholepractice, including background information, features of the selected material andreasons for the research. Case study is the core part. Through analysis, it is shown thatprofessional interpreter, besides sound language skills, usually has a good control ofthe interpreting circumstance, and sufficient understanding of the cultures of the twolanguages, which laid a solid foundation for the final interpretation.
