The Cohesion Of C-E Consecutive Interpretation

With the rapid growth of international exchange, consecutive interpretation is frequently applied in business negotiations, academic forums, lectures, press conferences, etc.As an interlingual subject and communicative activity, consecutive interpretation is closely related with and affected by rules of linguistics.The present author intends to study the discourse cohesion of C-E consecutive interpretation of "the China-South Asia Expo" and "the China-Arab States Expo", two press conferences.According to the interpretive theory, the object of interpretation is "sense" and the sense unit only exists in discourse. Therefore, a qualified interpreting should be a faithful representation of the SL discourse and coherent with the TL discourse. The coherence of discourse largely relies on the application of cohesion devices.Applying the interpretive theory and cohesion theory, the author focuses on the techniques of correspondence and amplification of conjunctions in the process of C-E consecutive interpretation.
