The late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China was the crucial period for rapid change of modern Chinese society. The advanced intellectuals put forward the children’s public education, which aroused wide public attention, during the pursuing of emancipation of women and children and the social reformation.The thesis focuses on the study of children’s republic education in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China. The case study and comparative study are applied in the research of the origin and development of the children’s republic education. The thesis, based on of documents and comments from people in that time, try to represent true feature of children’s republic education.The first part makes an analysis on the historical condition of the children’s republic education in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China. First, the paper traces the historical origin of the children’s republic education. Further more, it details the historical reason of the children’s republic education from the three aspects:the bankrupt of the traditional Chinese big family system, the flourishing of the emancipation of women and the crying needs of solving the children’s republic education problem.The second part focuses on the development and change of the children’s republic education in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China. As the body of the whole thesis, this part mainly discusses the process of the children’s republic education in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China from its generating to its development and finally to its fading away. The process was linked closely to Chinese social change and went through the dream of emancipation of women and children and social reformation.The third part mainly presents the comprehensive evaluation to children’s republic education in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China.This part not only discusses the positive effects on women, children and society brought by rise of children’s republic education, but also points out its historical limitation due to its breakaway from the social reality and its one-side pursuing for republic education.
