A Study On The Vocabulary Of The Title In The Late Qing Dynasty And The Early Republic Of China

The Chinese society of the late Qing Dynasty is the era of upheaval, big change. In this period, foreign advanced culture idea by western and Japanese translation of works was introduced into China in large quantities. Under the effect of the indirect language contact,Speeding up Chinese transition from ancient Chinese to modern Chinese history. In this process,emerging language had always been by the means of a product of modernization- all kinds of newspapers and magazines to use and spread to all levels of society. Among the many modern newspapers and periodicals, as China’s modern life of the longest, the biggest impact of the professional education, publications, "Journal of Education" founded in 1909 by Shanghai Commercial Press, has the important research value. Title Language as a special written, is an important window to study the status of their language. On the "Journal of Education" heading concerned, under the title of bondage pragmatic environment which are names, simplicity, and stressed the News, its title words reflects the traditional written language habits, transitional features classical and elegant colors and stylistic language development, reflection of the complexity of this period using words.So in this paper, literature research, discourse analysis, quantitative and qualitative analysis methods have been used to study the vocabulary in the main title of “Journal of Education” during1909 to 1918, which is in 10 volumes,100 terms and total 1282. Through the combing and analysis of the corpus, you can find simple classical common words except for a few inevitable use of outer, more than double syllable, syllable loanwords have emerged, title verb flexible,individual classical Chinese function words in use process is often use close to the spoken word.These words usage in the journal of education title language on the basis of the concise and grave classical Chinese expression has an obvious tendency of vernacular. Therefore, this article focuses on the education journal title in the title verbs, loanwords and function analysis, and reveals its title inheritance and development of ancient Chinese words, and then sums up the influence on the modern Chinese vocabulary system.This paper is divided into four parts:The first part is the introduction. First introduced this article selected topic background and significance, combing the late Qing and early Republic of development of social economy,ideological and cultural background, the journal features and language characteristics of this period, in order to have more fully and comprehensive knowledge of research objects. Secondly,from the perspective of news headlines classification clear education magazine title type, and combine the characteristics of the journal of education and content to correct classification of thecontent and structure of the title, to determine the main title for this article research scope; by defining concepts related to "word", determine the research object of this article are language unit in word category, and as the basis of screening from the corpus of the object of study. Again, this paper introduces the present situation of the related research and research results, to provide theoretical support for the research of this paper. Finally, this paper introduces the research methods of this article.The second part is the research emphasis in this paper.This part of title verbs,foreign words and function words has carried on the detailed and in-depth study.(一)Some verbs in the title,the article first of all,on the basis of relevant scholars research on defining the concept of"title verb",then the journal title in the title generalizes the usage of verbs.The use of verbs according to its title,location selection based on the single and double syllable verbs and verb word order two aspects carries on the analysis research,according to statistics revealed that the development of title double syllable verbs.(二)In loanwords study section,this paper firstly the concept of the"loanwords",set,and to determine the basis of the screening of loanwords in this paper,and to determine the basis of the screening of loanwords in this paper.Then,this article from the form,function of parts of speech,the etymology of loanwords,righteousness Angle to analyze it,and summarize loanwords brings important influence on the development of Chinese modern education.(三)In the study of function words,in this paper,the semantic and usage of similar function words are grouped,and comparative study.Through the analysis of the corpus can be found that the usage of"Zhi(之)"increased in compared with ancient Chinese for the title statement coherent and semantic expression plays an important role.The grammatical function of“Zhi(之)”approached”De(的)”.Along with the use of"De(的)","Zhi(之)"had the tendency of replacement.In addition,the"Yu(与)"and"Ji(及)"as ancient Chinese written language commonly used in conjunction,in the journal of education is often used to connect two parallel for the title.Finally,the influence of foreign language translation."On(关于)"and"to(对于)"by"+interface"structure completely vocabulary into mature prepositions,and modern Chinese usage.In the titles of Journal of Education,the prepositional structures which build up by these two words,are used as attributive.mainly modify nouns.Moreover"On(关于)......"and"By(对于)......"structure can fuss title.The third section describes the status of the late Qing Dynasty linguistics title vocabulary.The section headings in the words of the late Qing Dynasty inheritance and development of ancient Chinese vocabulary were central discussion, on the basis of this, the influence on Modern Chinese vocabulary words in the title system of Journal of Education can be revealed. The title words of ancient Chinese vocabulary inherited mainly in the use of ancient words andmonosyllabic words play an important role; mainly in the development of rediscovering and utilization as well as the old saying Ancient Chinese Vocabulary Words of the function of the expansion of both materials. At last, from the richness of both the proportion of two-syllable word statistics and a summary of the impact of Chinese vocabulary system "Journal of Education" title words of the modern Chinese vocabulary system.The fourth part is the conclusion. This part of the research paper summarizes the various parts, reveal the value and meaning of title vocabulary studying of "Journal of Education".
