| The characteristics of English news headlines are creativity, conciseness, authority, utility and efficacy. English news editors or reports usually bond English news headlines with strong language memes to form new memes or memeplexes with a view to enhancing their infectivity and readability and thus attracting readers’ attention.In the present study, the theory of memetics will be employed as theoretical framework and qualitative analysis will be adopted as major research method, taking English news headline language as study objects to explore the formation and transmission ways of memes in English news headlines. At the same time, the thesis further discusses the prerequisite of how English news headline become strong meme, and finally the author suggests how to use proper meme strategy to create strong language meme. Therefore, it is easily for reporters to compose accurate headline so that meme can be copied and transmitted successfully, and meanwhile attract more attention from the public and accepted easily more the readers. The application of meme, on the one hand, providing a new solution to transmit the news, and on the other hand, influencing the public about language usage which has practical meaning. The corpus adapted in this thesis is mainly from Times, Washington Post, Business Week and Los Angeles Times. What’s more, the writer further analyzes three features of language English news headlines:variability, negotiability and adaptability under the memetics perspective. |
