In this paper, the author tries to focus on the audience who are often viewedas image recipients or interpreters, and analyzes the audiences’ visual habits indifferent times or backgrounds. Moreover, the author also studies the people’s“peculiar ideas” and “accepted scene” in special times. Furthermore, the authormakes comparison between the artists’“historical sense” and the public’s,compares the ancients’ historical sense with the modern people’. By such acomparison, the author raises three questions: first, Is our historical sense really anobjective fact or a subjective choice? Secondly, how should we face our historicalsense if it was not true? Lastly, how much can the historical sense influence ourtastes to art works?This paper’s structure includes two parts:1.“Image interpreters’ ideas”2.“Their historical sense” And it contains four chapters and eight sections: the firstchapter contains two sections: the first section is “pre-understanding” and“accepted sense”, the second is an enlightenment from an African wood carving;The second chapter has also two sections, which discussed the difference ofpeople’s concepts under the same or different “cultural backgrounds”. The thirdchapter described a fact that the17thFrance painting and17thHolland painting hadalways been influenced by the public’s ideas for a long time. And the title of thelast chapter is “different historical sense”, it tries to prove that there are two kindsof different historical sense between the artists and the public as well as theancients and the modern people. As to the different historical sense of the artistsand the public, the author thinks that it derives from two different traditions which the artists and the public have always fellow. The artists have learned from the“forming schema” and created a new style for themselves. In contrast, the publichave fellow a moral, religious, literary or historical tradition. As to the differenthistorical sense of the ancients and the modern people, the author holds that itstems from the accumulation of their visual habit and the difference of historicalscene during a special period.
