Jade hand pieces play an important part in Chinese traditional jade culture, carry forward Chinese outstanding traditional culture and the thoughts of creation and incorporate excellent design philosophy, human spirit and aesthetic details. Jade hand pieces as part of jade carving works feature in diverse modeling, wide range and rich meaning. They are popular with literati, which get them in a mood, give them a hobby and bring them spiritual solace.In this paper, such research method as survey method, literature review, case analysis are used to study the plastic arts of jade hand pieces from the perspective of design, make an analysis of the design concepts and styling features of jade hand pieces and sum up their aesthetic features and cultural connotation This paper aims at providing a reference for designing modern jade hand pieces and contributing to the development of the traditional art of carving jade hand pieces.This paper consists of four parts. The first part is the summary of historical origin, materials and types of jade hand pieces on the basis of the existing literature; the second part weaves around the analysis of styling scale, styling theme, styling technique, and styling characteristics in production industry of jade hand pieces; in the third part, the aesthetic characteristics of jade hand pieces are expounded regarding the beauty of materials, styling, carving crafts and artistic conception, and their cultural connotation is analyzed with Chinese traditional culture as an entry point; in the fourth part, the thought of change is put forward after analyzing the current difficulties in the development of jade hand pieces.Regarding the development of jade hand pieces, it is necessary to attach great importance to inheriting traditional carving techniques. No matter how advanced mechanization is, mechanized works are never as vivid and substantial as hand-carved ones. If all works follow the same pattern and are reduced to being industrial products, they lose the greatest charm. The development of jade hand pieces requires both innovation and inheritance of traditional culture. Only innovation on the basis of inheritance is of vitality.
