The study of advers have always been a hot and difficult concent in Linguistics since adverbs were noticed. As a special category of Chinese vocabulary, negative polarity adverbs in modern Chinese have been paid more and more attention by many scholars in recent years. The reasons are as follows, Negative polarity adverb has there particularity in syntax, semantics and pragmatics. They have great research value in both synchronic and diachronic. So we should have systematic and thorough study on them. This paper is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction part. This part has an introduction of the reasons why negative polarity adverbs in modern Chinese are selected as the topic of the paper. Besides, it Points out the shortcomings in the previous study, and it introduces the research methods and data sources.The second chapter has a preliminary definition of the negative polarity adverbs and determines the numbers of the negative polarity adverbs in modern Chinese.Chapter three analyzes negative polarity adverbs in modern Chinese from three aspects of syntax, semantics and pragmatics.The fourth chapter presents a special category of negative polarity adverbs in modern Chinese——the negative polarity adverbs which can be used in both affirmative structure and negative structure. This part has a detailed study on these adverbs.The fifth chapter is the summary part, it summarizes the main content and conclusions of this article.This paper has a comprehensive analysis on negative polarity adverbs in modern Chinese. The main innovations are:(1)It systematically analyzes the synchronic characteristics of negative polarity adverbs in modern Chinese;(2)It has a detailed study on the negative polarity adverbs which can be used in both affirmative structure and negative structure.
