Novels and films and TV plays are narrating arts, they have a natural and internal connection in the aspect of narrating, that is to pursue narrative, which is the basis of novels that are adapted from films and TV plays. Films and TV plays based on novels provide a chance, for the exchange and mixture between films and TV plays and art. Yan Geling is an oversea Chinese woman writer who was once an editor. Her novel itself has elements of films and TV plays, which provides convenience for adapting novels to films and TV plays. Since the novels Maid XiaoYu, Yan Geling has many works adapted to films and TV plays. Her novels were adapted most and had most influence, which leads to the trend of adapting Yan Geling’s works to films and TV plays.Novels and films and TV plays have something in common, but they are two different art forms. When novels are adapted to TV plays, they were limited by many factors. So there will be many changes in some aspects, such as ways of narrating, the layout of plot, characters, the presentation of themes and styles of appreciating beauty. The writer abandons the study that whether adapting novels is honest to the original works, under the normal films adapting theories, but discusses the narrating changes of Yan Geling’s novels when they are adapted from novels. The writer dose it from the perspective of modern narratology through story plot, characters, narrating perspective and narrating time and space. The writer explores how to communicate and draw with original work on narrating when novels were adapted to films and TV plays. This is the meaning of the study of this text and it is also the central problem that this text.
