On The Creation Of Guizi’s Novel

As the high-profile new writer in Chinese contemporary literary world, Guangxifamous writer Guizi has worked hard for many years, by the way of writing thebottom of people misery living and solemn, ghosts narrative style, he created numbersof interesting, profound connotation works,favored by the vast number of readers,however, the contrast with Guizi’s creations is that the academic study of his worksis far from perfect nowadays, many aspects are to be discussed in depth. Based onGuizi’s novel, this paper attempts to do a systematic, comprehensive analysis withGuizi’s works, in order to explore his creativity’s unique significance andcontribution in the contemporary literature history. This paper mainly analyzes anddiscuss to Guizi’s novel as the following four aspects，First, the evolution of creative ideas. By influenced in Latin American magicrealism in nineteen eighties, Guizi combined with the minority areas of Guangxi folkculture in his creation. His novels presents in a kind of gloomy, ghosts and goblinsunique writing style. But because of excessive focusing on magic realism performanceskills, Guizi’s novels lack of the author’s self-consciousness that is not able topromote readers in-depth thinking and resonate. After a year of rest, Guizi returned tothe literary world in1996, his creative idea subversive changed, his novels changed toattention to the people’s misery living at the bottom of society, showing theprofound spirit of humanism.Second, the exploration of the suffering theme. Suffering is the persistent themein Guizi’s novels. In his well-buit “tile city” which is the world full of suffering,the bottom of the people’s living pain is mainly from two aspects that is thecontradictory social problem and the alienation of human nature. However, Guizi’ssuffering writing did not stop at this, in his new work “The New Year” and “ARope Made of Water”, Guizi began to try to excavate and discuss the way ofresisting the suffering which makes his suffering writing form a qualitative leap, andthe suffering theme has also been further sublimation.Third, narrative art. Guizi’s novels have a unique narrative style, mainlyreflected in three aspects that are the personalized of the occasional narrative strategy,flat and poetic language and vivid tragic images. As the narrative power in Guizi’snovels, the occasional narrative strategy continues to promote the development of the plot, deepen the suffering theme, so that the works have a very dramatic aestheticeffect. In the use of language, Guizi smart controls to grief, anger and other emotionsand hid them in the narrative. The language of the novel shows a plain and poeticstyle. The tragic image is a method commonly used in Guizi’s novels. The authoruses the things which are with tragic color in the daily life as the novel image toexpress the tragic meaning.Fourth, the significance of Guizi. Guizi’s creation experience has a specialsignificance for himself, Guangxi literature and the contemporary Chinese literature.Personally, Guizi’s creation through the imitation of magic realism to the return ofattention to the practical suffering writing, and exploration of the way to resist humansuffering, in this process Guizi has showed the persistence of the writer’s conscienceand constant self transcendence. To Guangxi literary world, the early of Guizi’smagic realism creation with a strong Guangxi minority culture inherit the folk cultureof minority nationalities wrote by part of the Guangxi senior writers, and his laternovles are beyond the the Guangxi senior writers for praising the socialistconstruction, advanced excavating and exploring the survival suffering in the bottomof the people. In Chinese contemporary literary world, Guizi belongs to the writers ofthe younger generation. His suffering writing is different from the other writers that isnot limited to a specific historical background or has any political ideas, but paysmore attention to the bottom of people’s suffering caused by the social problems andthe alienation of human nature. Therefore, Guizi’s writing is a kind of typical“offbeat” in the suffering writing among the writers of the younger generation.In short, Guizi is one of the unique ethnic minority writers. His unique life andwriting style is formed by his unusual experience, and the more attentions of peoplewere attracted by his works in the late nineteen ninties. A number of researchers alsodid some academic researches on Guizi’s creation, however, so far most of theirstudies are only limited to some aspects of Guizi’s novels. This paper does asystematic study on Guizi’s novel from the evolution of creative ideas, theexploration of the suffering theme, narrative art and the significance of Guizi,although not comprehensive but also a new perspective.
