With the development of China since20th century, Chinese plays a more and more important role in international communication of culture and economy. The number of Chinese learners tends to increase all over the world. The course of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, as a course emerges with the development of society, is supposed to make constant innovations and reforms in order to improve the learners’ learning efficiency and cater for the requirements of individuals and society.Listening, speaking, reading and writing are regarded as the four goals of foreign language learning. Writing is important for achieving learning goals, accomplishing communicative activities. Result-oriented writing approach, as a traditional teaching method, focuses on the students’ writing results and ignores how to cultivate and improve their abilities of using language to think. Process-oriented approach overcomes the shortcomings of the former, based on communicative theory, centered on students themselves, emphasizes on developing students’ abilities of thinking and communicating and the importance of writing contents. It has attracted the attention of the teachers and researchers in home and abroad.According to the students’ characteristics, demands and the teaching goals, the writer made this instructional design of intermediate Chinese writing based on process-oriented writing approach with an aim to make students express their ideas and life experiences fully with the help of group cooperation and writing drills and finally achieve the goals of intermediate writing. There are some points which should be paid much attention to when we are applying the process approach in writing class. The writing topics should be of interest to student; students should be given enough time to write and edit; it can be used with other methods; it should be guided with communicative principle, etc. Process-oriented writing has some limits as well. We need to think seriously and solve positively all the above questions and try to make process-oriented approach an efficient teaching method for Chinese writing.
