With the rapid development of computer and network information technology,researches about Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) have gained certainachievements, and the former has injected vitality into the latter, which has wonwidely attention among the world. Meanwhile, it has become a trend to studycooperative learning (CL) under web-based CALL environment (WBCALLE) withextensive introduction and intensive studies. Network information technology offersmany beneficial conditions for the construction of CL environment; however, somenew instructional problems come out correspondingly: what is the situation of collegestudents’ basic web device, computer literacy and internet popularity; what attitude dothey hold toward CL under WBCALLE; what are their general abilities, etc. Thispaper aims to investigate the above questions and then provide some valuablesuggestions so as to improve the efficiency of their CL under WBCALLE.This paper uses questionnaires and interview as the research instruments. Theinstruments are college students in their fourth grade in Yantai University and QufuNormal University. Results of the questionnaires are as follows: college students havegood web-device equipments, convenient internet access and adequate computerliteracy can support their CL under WBCALLE; they hold positive attitude toward it,while their abilities need further improvement before they can meet the demands ofCL under WBCALLE. Especially they don’t perform very well in communication.The qualitative analysis of interview aims to supplement the questionnaires and tap itwith the underlying causes for the answers learners have given, which offers valuableevidence for future teaching and learning practice.Based on investigations on the problems existing in students’ attitude toward CLunder WBCALLE and their abilities in CL, the author offers some pedagogicalsuggestions for reference so as to improve their CL under WBCALLE and providesreference for future researchers.
