With the development of globalization, international communication becomes more andmore frequent. As one of the most frequently used forms of language skills, listening plays avery important role in our daily communication as well as in the educational process.Nowadays, there generally exist the problems of large classes but the less class hours in Englishteaching of vocational colleges. With the rapid development of computer technology, it offersan ideal environment of autonomous listening learning. The cultivation of students’ autonomouslearning ability in listening has become the top priority.In the thesis, the author introduces the studies and related theories: the status of listeninglearning and its related research, the concept of autonomous learning and its relevant theory, thedefinition of web-based autonomous listening learning and its relevant theory, etc. Thesetheories provide compelling theoretical basis for this research.The experiment aims to studywhether the web-based autonomous listening learning mode can promote the students’ listeningability and improve the learning interest of the students.The experiment lasted about one semester. The author selected students (non-Englishmajors) from two classes of Shandong Yingcai University randomly as the subjects. Therefore,the two classes were respectively identified as an experimental group and a control group.Theexperimental group took web-based autonomous listening learning while the control group wastaught by the traditional listening learning mode. Both classes took pre-test and post-test onlistening comprehension. The pre-test showed that there was no significant difference inlistening proficiency between these two classes. Both classes were surveyed on learnerautonomy by a questionnaire to investigate the current situation of learner autonomy in Englishlistening learning. This study adopted tests, questionnaires and interview to get the related dataand tried to analyze the data.The results of this experiment show that web-based autonomous listening learning modecan improve the students’ listening comprehension, improve the students’ motivation andenhance the students’ autonomous learning ability. The students can make and carry out theirown learning process, monitor and evaluate their learning results. The web-based autonomous listening learning conforms to the requirements of the students’ learning and psychologicalcharacteristics. We conclude that it is practical and valuable to popularize the web-basedautonomous listening learning mode in vocational colleges.
