| The Basic Requirements for English Teaching at Higher Vocational Colleges (trail) in2000clearly put forward the teaching thought as practical primarily for sufficient degree. In addition, the objective of English courses is to train students’ability of using English. Additionally, English test should focus on checking the students’practical ability of using language combining formative assessment with summative assessment.In order to promote the teaching of Vocational College English listening and speaking, explore a kind of effective teaching method and evaluation mode, the author made action research linking theory with practice, with Non-English Major freshmen from2classes majoring Cruise Services in Higher Vocational College (a class being as the experimental group, a class as the control group) as the research object, adopted e-portfolio assessment in listening and speaking teaching,which lasted16weeks and studied the feasibility of applying e-portfolio assessment in Vocational college English listening and speaking. It is worth mentioning that, the application of WeChat (micro message) as the means to collect data for e-portfolio assessment should be the innovation of electronic portfolio assessment. The author makes full use of the superiority of WeChat for e-portfolio assessment. To examine the implementation and effect of e-portfolio assessment on listening and speaking, a succession of procedures including classroom observation, questionnaires, reviews, pretest, posttest and e-portfolio audio materials are utilized to collect extensive data for the research. Quantitative data are analyzed through SPSS, and qualitative data are dealt through the procedure of protocol analysis.From the questionnaires and the students interviews before and after the experiment, the data analysis shows that the experimental group by e-portfolio assessment has generated strong interest in English listening and speaking, self-assessment, peer-assessment, gained tons of self-confidence, strengthen cooperation consciousness and improved listening comprehension ability and communication competence. Thus, the author concludes that, compared with the traditional teaching mode, e-portfolio assessment via WeChat in Higher Vocational English listening and speaking can play its positive role and it is doubtless feasible. |
