Interpreting Practice Report Of Strictly Come Dancing Program

This report is based on author’s personal experience of nearly three months of practice in Strictly Come Dancing program of Hunan TV Station. According to the record and the memory of the author, this report lists various of examples during the process of interpreting. Also, this report combines with relative theories to analyze the causes and make a conclusion.This report is composed of four chapters, Chapter One is the description to the Strictly Come Dancing program and the operation of the program. Strictly Come Dancing plays an important role in strengthening cultural exchange and cooperation between the mainland and Hong Kong. And the major work of the author is to interpret for the five American choreographers, who are invited by the Hunan TV Station Station to choreograph for the Strictly Come Dancing.Chapter Two is the description of the process of interpreting, which includes the characteristics of the interpreting practice, the labor division of interpreters, glossary related to the field of costumes, props, living goods, food and so on, relative story, cultural background, music, props and quantities of back dancers of each dance as well as the theme of dances next week. It also contains the selection of coping tactics such as omission, note-taking, paraphrasing or explanation, and naturalization.Chapter Three discusses the cases study and coping tactics. Cases study contain the theory of interpreter’s subjectivity consciousness, such as the visibility of interpreter; Non-neutrality standpoint of interpreter; Interpreter’s ethics consciousness, such as professional loyalty, fidelity, Quality of interpreting, concerning the accuracy, speed of interpreting, paralanguage interpreting and cultural differences.Chapter Four puts forth the unsolved problems of interpreting and enlightenment and prospect for future study. The first problem is the low social status of liaison interpreter and the low quality of interpreting. The second is the inaccurate interpreting of paralanguage, which is very important to the good quality of interpreting. The third problem is interpreter’s inadequate ability. The fourth one is the interpreter’s inadequacy of subjectivity consciousness.In recent years, the domestic interpreting has achieved rapid development. Nevertheless, there is still few interpreting practice reports. The author analyses the problems encountered during her practice on the basis of relevant theory for the purpose of contributing to the interpreting practice.
