The Study Of Application Strategies Of Interpreter’s Subjectivity Consciousness In Interpreting Activities

As an important exchange activity between different cultures, interpreting plays a very important role in the development of politics, economy and culture. As an indispensable part of the interpreting activity, the function and role of the interpreter has long been discussed and paid special attention to.In the paper, the author first reviewed the history and development of interpreting and the role of interpreters, and pointed out the important function the interpreters play in interpreting activities. From the "conversation theory" of M.M. Bakhtin and the "power theory" of Michel Foucault, the author described in details the roles and functions of interpreters, the necessity of interpreters’subjectivity consciousness, and the qualities of interpreters and problems in adopting interpreters’subjectivity consciousness.The author draws the following conclusion for a theoretical analysis and case study that interpreting activity is indeed a cultural exchange activity in which interpreters play a more and more important function. They have changed the role of being a "middle person" and their subjectivity consciousness becomes a key factor to make their interpreting more accurate, more vivid and more flexible. The interpreters should adopt different interpreting strategies according to different contexts, sentence structures and cultural backgrounds to achieve accuracy and flexibility. One the other hand, we should be aware that interpreters’ subjectivity consciousness should be fulfilled within a certain limit and cannot be beyond the limit. Hence the relationship between the interpreters’ subjectivity consciousness and fidelity should be a unity of opposites.The author expects that the essay can provide a new way and pattern for interpreters and interpreting activities by illustrating and analyzing the interpreters’subjectivity consciousness.
