Analysis Of "Mulan" Image Across Chinese And American Literature And Movies

As the representative female figure of the heroine in Chinese history, Mulan’s image has shown strong vitality and research value by spreading across the time, space and regions. This article selects four typical text which based on different times and different cultural backgrounds of China and the United States. The original text Mulan, modern movie Hua mulan, Disney animated film Mulan and the overseas Chinese literary text The Warrior Woman.By combing mulan’s images from the four types of cross-cultural texts, the author tries to deeply explore the cultural roots behind the evolution of mulan’s images. Furthermore, we can find a new way to explore the communication and integration between the eastern and western cultures under the background of globalization.In this article, Chinese mulan image research mainly comes from the old folk song Mulan and modern Chinese film Hua mulan, they both interpreted mulan’s kindness and braveness. At the same time, they also have diachronic differences, the development of media and the changes of the audience has influenced the reconstruction of mulan’s image. American mulan’s image research in this article mainly originated from the Disney movie Mulan and oversea Chinese text the warrior women, they are based on the western horizon, gave the brand-new writings of mulan’s image.Compare the four types of mulan’s images we can find that with china’s strong and oversea Chinese writers’hardworking, the ethnic Chinese communities and Chinese culture has got preliminary acceptance in American society, but the western world still has oriental socialist towards china, misunderstanding is still there. So the eastern and western counties need to continuously strengthen cultural exchanges and co operations. Therefore the promotion of culture blend between eastern and western can be true.
