With the development of economic globalization, China has made great achievements in foreign trades. Since an increasing number of products enter into the international market, consumers’ various kinds of demands are fulfilled. According to a data, there are15,000auto parts factories in our country, which accounts for more than a half of the world’s, and China’s annual volume of export is about60billion, which only accounts for10%of the world’s. This phenomenon caused by many factors, which the quality of product’s publicity is an important one. In order to obtain more profit in foreign trades and appeal to more consumers, more and more merchants in China begin to realize that they should pay attention to the instructions translation of their products while improving products’ quality because as an important part of products, instructions play a role of "bridge" that connects merchants and consumers.The purpose of auto parts instructions translation is to promote selling; however, the research findings of auto parts instructions translation in China nowadays are quite few, which the researches mainly concentrates on cosmetic instructions translation, medicine instructions translation, etc. What’s more, systematic theories also deficient in the process of translation. Due to specific patterns and requirements of different products’instructions, it is requisite to make a separate and systematic study of auto parts instructions translation.This thesis tries to research the C-E translation of auto parts instructions from the perspective of Skopostheorie, and discusses the principles and methods of auto parts instructions translation. According to the basic concept of Skopostheorie, the translation purpose justifies the translation process, this thesis then presents the principles that the version should be loyal to source text in the premise of achieving translation purpose and should keep coherent in translation, in addition, the specific methods include:literal translation, free translation, amplification and omission. All these principles and methods are proved by examples.This thesis composed of three parts. The first part expounds the research’s background, significance, methodology and situations. The second part is the main body of this thesis, which consists of four chapters: the first chapter is the introduction of paper’s theoretical framework, it first introduces the development of Skopostheorie, and then focuses on the basic concepts and three essential rules of Vermeer’s Skopostheorie; the second chapter discusses the definition and the main functions of auto parts instructions, and in order to achieve a better translation of auto parts instructions, the thesis then analyses the differences and similarities between Chinese and English auto parts instructions; the third chapter is a case study, which tries to find out solutions by analysing its problems; the fourth chapter is the core of this part, it studies how to use Skopostheorie to guide auto parts instructions translation and put forwards translation principles and specific methods. The last part makes a conclusion of the whole thesis.
