Research On The Chinese-English Translation Of Instructions To Technology Products From The Perspective Of Skopostheorie

With the further development of China ' s foreign trade and the enhancement of its independent research,more and more Chinese-funded enterprises tend to enter the international market by marketing and selling their technology products overseas.The introduction and maintenance of those technology products depend heavily on professional instruction and explanation.Therefore,faithfully and expressively translated instructions to those products are urgently needed.In consideration of the features and purposes of instructions to technology products,Skopostheorie plays a significant role in the translation process of those texts from Chinese into English.However,currently,some problems do emerge in the C-E translation of those texts,such as improper or wrong diction,illogicality,redundancy and expression in a roundabout way,etc,all of which will hamper target users' correct understanding of the products,even result in severe misunderstanding.In turn,consumers are very likely to have a bad impression on the products and the manufacturers.More seriously,the prospect of Chinese-funded enterprises going overseas and gaining a place for their technology products in the international market would be worsening.The author and his team were given a task of translating the instructions to the Rubber Internal Mixer produced by a large-sized company in Tianjin on the 20th of May,2015 and completed the whole project on the 31st of May,2015.During the ten-day process,the author and his team spared no efforts to polish the translation version through cooperation,extremely strict check and considerable revision.The structure of the thesis is as follows.Firstly,the features peculiar to instructions to technology products are summarized.Secondly,there is an elaborate analysis on the problems facing the translators in the process of C-E translation of those texts via some typical examples given.Meanwhile,from the perspective of Skopostheorie,the revised versions of those examples have also been provided and the reasons why those examples can be revised in this way have been explained clearly.Finally,with the guidance of Skopostheorie,specific translation principles and strategies in the process of C-E translation of that kind of texts have also been offered and by listing specific examples,those principles have been illustrated in a proper manner.
