English is a compulsory course for the students in vocational colleges.Each student in the college must have English classes for one to two yearsagainst future graduation and job interview. Owe to lacking of Englishlanguage context and weak skills of this subject, English learning is very dulland difficult for the vocational college students. As a result, learning burnoutappears and gradually generates a bad influence on students’ learning andteachers’ teaching. Therefore, it has become an urgent problem to improvevocational education quality by discussing and analyzing Vocational CollegeStudents’ English learning burnout’s status and causes so as to find outcorresponding countermeasures.To solve the above question, the author makes an investigation intoburnout status in Baotou Light Industry Vocational Technological College ofInner Mongolia (BTLVTC) with the questionnaires and an interview, aimingto find the problems and defects in the English teaching in vocational college.The investigation is conducted the learners’ needs and attitudes towards theEnglish class, teaching arrangement, teaching methodology, teachingmaterials and evaluation system. The subjects are300students who nearlyfinished English course and will take the course soon,5teachers withteaching experiences of the English course for over5years. The datacollected from the questionnaires are analyzed with SPSS11.5. The research applied descriptive statistic, means, percentage to show the present conditionof English learning burnout. Based on the analysis of the investigation of theabove issues, the author will learn status English learning burnout, and findout the problems related to English course design. The results of theinvestigation show that the burnout status caused both by the internal factorsof students themselves and the external factors including deficient class hours,dull and difficult teaching material,"teacher-centered" teaching methods andevaluation with simple methods. There is a gap between the status of theEnglish teaching and the expectations of the students. In order to solve theabove problems, the author puts forward the suggestions about how to build alearner-centered English class which aims to improve the teaching effects andto meet the requirements of cultivating the students of vocational college withthe proficient English knowledge. The author hopes this study can offerinspiration and reference for other researches related to English teaching invocational college. But more importantly, it is expected that the thesis canarouse more concern and attention for English teaching from the educationaland academic fields.This thesis consists of five parts. The first part is the instruction ofthe background of the study. The second part mainly introduces the theories ofburnout, including the definition, the origin, the measurements of burnout andits relation with English learning; The third part is the investigation into thestatus of English learning burnout in BTLVTC. The fourth part is about deflects and shortcomings found in current English teaching in BTLVTCthrough the result analysis. On the basis of data analysis of the investigationand features of learner-centred English teaching, the fifth part winds up theessay with the author’s suggestions on current English teaching in BTLVTC.
