By the stimulus of commodity economy, Ming Qing engraving industry got a substantial development. The rising of engraving industry was in accordance with the popular novel. Booksshop play an very important role in the creation and dissemination of popular novel. Hangzhou was a significant printing centre in Song dynasty and got further development in Ming and Qing dynasty and becoming an integrated printing center with both creation and dissemination of popular novel. Hu zhou was a newly developing printing centrer since Mid-Ming Dynasty. It’s influenced by the three printing centers of the south and Hangzhou. Although it engraved less books than others, it contributed a lot in creation and dissemination of popular novel.Untill the Mid-Ming Dynasty, because of the combination of the official and the folk culture, the government changed attitude towards the popular novel. The economic boom lead to the rise of citizen stratum and the creation and dissemination of popular novel find its way towards prosperity. In Qing dynasty, the rulers were on the alert of the great influences of popular novel and took series of measures to control it. The popular novel had a very hard time. No matter how strict Ming and Qing dynasty treat it,it’s strong and active on the stage of literature and history.The Grand canal nourished the two cities and breed brilliant culture. The urban economic development paved the way for the popular novel. The booksshop in Hangzhou and Huzhou owned advanced engraving technology, talents and firm material basis, they became principal repository.Hangzhou and Huzhou are bases of the creation and dissemination of popular novel.The creation of popular novel in Hangzhou and Huzhou showed that the authors and the owners of the booksshops were quite related, more and more owners took part in creating popular novel, for instance, Luyunlong and Lu renlong brothers, Ling mengchu and Liyu, etc. This situation made the booksshops face the market directly and were more flexible and active. The books engraved here had their own features and became very popular among the buyers and had a potential market.From the mass communication perspective,the primary medium of popular novel dissemination was booksshops and the most representitive one for canal cities were booksboats.Since the Mid-Ming dynasty,the dissemination of popular novel became more mature. The Xiongdamu phenomenon turned up, and the combination of marketing and modern mass communication. The reason of criticism and insert map appeared was the booksshop went for more benefits in primary.The booksshops in Hangzhou and Huzhou in Ming and Qing dystany were irreplaceable in helping creation and dissemination of popular novel.
