With the development of the world economy, and the rapid development of globalization, domestic companies have set up bilingual corporate websites for better self-promotion. Company profiles are as the window of the company, bearing the vital role of informing potential consumers operation, management and culture of a company. Most companies try their best to establish a perfect image to the consumers through the company profiles. According to the author’s observation, however, many online company profiles are simply literal translation of their Chinese versions, which are just translated word by word, sentence by sentence, ignoring the culture of targeted language and reading habits. Therefore, this kind of literal translation hardly helps to promote companies effectively.In recent years, a lot of improvements have been made in translation study of company profile; so many researches adopted a serious of theories. However, most studies are just pointing out that what standard the translation of company profile should reach or proposing some specific translation strategies in terms of some words or sentences. There is no scholar carried out this study caring about the distinctions from the different cultures and writing convention in the macro-level and the different lexicon choices in the micro-level.Based on the previous studies, this thesis will put forward a generic equity as a new criterion for assessing the translation of company profiles. According to Systemic Functional Linguistics, all the texts are formed by schematic structure and realization patterns. This study will be conducted from these two aspects. In the schematic structure aspect, the translators should make clear that what obligatory and optional elements the native text owns. In the realization patterns aspect, in order to make the translated text conform to the native usage, the equivalence between native text and the translated text should be realized through three meanings--Ideational, Interpersonal and Textual meanings.The author will select respectively40native English company profiles samples,40Chinese company profiles and its related40translated samples from websites. Those company profiles concern about food, drinks, clothes and domestic electrics. Then the author will establish three monolingual corpuses, laying a scientific foundation for the study and conduct a comparative study of native company profiles, the translated company profiles and Chinese ones in terms of schematic structures and their realization patterns. Based on the findings, the author will see in what aspects the Chinese company profiles needs improve. Finally, the author will propose suggestions on the improvement of translated company profiles.On the theoretical aspect, this study will affirm the feasibility of genre analysis, as well as providing a new path for the textual translation studies which make up for the current studies from the macro-level. On the practical aspect, this study not only provides the guidance and help for translating Company profiles. Moreover a generic approach on translation will do good for translation of company profiles.
