Since twenty-first Century, the Chinese art market has made a huge leap forward in10years, the art market transaction scale completed from billions yuan to100billion yuan. According to the he global art market trends report conducted by European Fine Art Fund in2011, China has replaced the United States as the world’s most active art market. Artwork investment has become one of the three major investment, along with real estate investment and stock investment. It is a long history for Chinese ancient artwork collection, but it is still in a initial stage as a pure investment means. There are many problems, which are harmful to the development of the art investment market, and the investors are also in great risk. Therefore, how to manage and control the risk of ancient Chinese art work investment becomes an urgent problem.This paper defines the related concepts and range of ancient Chinese art works investment, points out the ancient Chinese art categories which is suitable for investment. The value, price characteristics of Chinese ancient artworks are analyzed carefully, meanwhile the artwork investment and other investment were classified and compared. This paper also analyzes the Chinese ancient art investment and trading action. Based on these analysis and comparison, combined with the mature market economy theory, especially the theory of risk control, we summarizes nine risks by analyzing internal and external risks of the investment on the Chinese ancient artwork, they are Selective risk art subject authenticity, trading opportunity risk, system risk of macroeconomic policies and regulations, the art of risk, the risk of price fluctuation, the risk of valuation, credit risk, storage risk, exchange risk.
