Brief Analysis On The National Musicality Of Piano Composition: Xiao Drum Of The Setting Sun

According to history it has been more than400years since piano came intoChina, however, to create and rearrange compositions of Chinese rhyme came in1930s. Piano compositions of Chinese features are treasures of musical culturescommunication between China and west countries. The most important part amongChinese compositions is the rearrangement to ancient Chinese musical works. Tounderstand and analyze the rearrangement has such importance. Among these pianocompositions which are rearranged from ancient Chinese compositions, there is anexcellent work: Xiao Drum of the Setting Sun, composed by Mr. Li Yinghai. Thiswork has such high art values, whatever in the aspects of eastern aesthetics or itsinterior harmony structures. This paper conducts research on history of piano in China,with performing skills, consider the work “Xiao Drum of the Setting Sun” as a clue,then analyze this work’s structure, thus to summarize the common and individualcharacters of Chinese rearranged piano compositions. These results will be effectivelyapplied in performance of Chinese piano works, then make perfection for piano’susage in China.
