As a traditional craftsmanship, silk figure has a long history and is an expression of Chinese ancient silk culture in the field of handicraft arts. Silk figure sprouted on Spring and Autumn and Warring States Period, and formed in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. During this period, it has experienced a development of "tomb figurines-puppets-paper men-silk figures" and other different shapes and forms. Eventually, silk figure had changed its function from practicality to aesthetic and rooted deeply in the fertile soil of the upper and civil society. Based on the ancient silk figure, Beijing Silk Figure has emerged since the establishment of P.R.C. And it has experienced a development of the initial period of the P.R.C, the Cultural Revolution, the Reform and Opening Period. Nowadays, Beijing Silk Figure is in a new century, facing both opportunities and challenges.As a thesis of Intangible Cultural Heritage, this article is based on the vision and perspective of the Study of Intangible Cultural Heritage. This paper has obtained the present inheritance situation and rules of Beijing Silk Figure.Meanwhile, author of this thesis has based on the practical experience of fieldwork, concluded and summarized the related problems which Beijing Silk Figure has been faced with. Finally, this paper has put forward some targeting solutions to the above problems. The author hopes this thesis will provide references and academic support for the study of Beijing Silk Figure and other traditional craftsmanship.
