As a school of thought in Chinese modern times, Zhanguo Ce School based on the times requirements of the national war of resistance, has adopted the western culture, and explored the Chinese traditional cultural values, through the reformation of the national ideology, in order to achieve the reconstruction of Chinese national culture. The ideology of national character reformation has more complete theory and system.This paper is divided into four parts:The first part is the ideological origin of Zhanguo Ce School’s thought of national character reformation. Zhanguo Ce School not only has inherited and developed the thoughts trend of nationality reformations since the modern times, but also learned and absorbed the western culture, forming the unique historical viewpoint of cultural characteristic. Basd on the theory of "Warring States Era", Zhanguo Ce School began to explore the way and method of national character reformation.The second part is Zhanguo Ce School’s ideology of national character reformation. To restore the cultural vitality of the whole nation and carry out the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Zhanguo Ce School put forward the national character reformation on the world outlook, outlook on life, bureaucratic tradition and national education, combining with the Chinese traditional culture and Western culture, deeply analyzed and revealed the Chinese social system and status, criticized the "scholar-official" personality in Chinese national character,attacked the recurrent disadvantage of bureaucratic tradition. Therefore, they advocated to recall the "official-scholar spirit" of the Warring States Era, and build a kind of life view like a "warrior", and those reformations would achieve the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, and reconstruct Chinese national culture.The third part is the comparison between the Zhanguo Ce School and the New Culture School’s ideology of national character reformation. During the may4th period, the New Culture School had put forward and analyzed the idea of reforming national character, so had Zhanguo Ce School done during the Anti-Japanese War period. They all pay much attention to the individual responsibility to society; there are commonality in opposing the patriarchal clan and family system. However, their ideas were not same. The New Culture School advocated to build the citizen literature, regarded enlightening the public as their mission, and emphasized individuality and individualism; Zhanguo Ce School advocated to build the national literature, exposed the evils of social elites and intellectuals, and emphasized nationalism and collectivism.The fourth part is the characteristics and historical status of Zhanguo Ce School ideology of national character reformation. The thought that Zhanguo Ce School advocate is based on the Chinese traditional culture, has the characteristics of the class, the compatibility and the times. This could not only promote the further development of modern enlightenment, but also have the benefit of carrying forward the patriotic spirit. However, Zhanguo Ce School’s thoughts of national character reformation still have tendencies of position extreme and promoting force and limitations of the theory.
