A Study On Du Weiyun, Xie Baocheng Two Three Volumes "History Of Chinese Historiography"

Du Weiyun is a historian form Taiwan. He spent17years to write books and published a three-volume" History of Chinese Historiography " in2004.The book is by far the "only one man to pose a multi-volume General History of Chinese history." Many of these places are breaking the traditional writing of Chinese historiography, such as the author has discussed about position of Chinese historiography in the world at the end of each volume. The author also pay attention to historiography thought and methodology of historical. Xie Baocheng is a domestic historian, who has took part in writing Yin Da’s "History of the Development of Chinese Historiography ". After20years, he organized team of historians to write the history of Chinese historiography, published a three-volume " History of Chinese Historiography " in2006. It’s " the only one so far Ministry three-volume " History of Chinese Historiography "." History of Chinese Historiography " taking the frame by combining the basic series and us-ing materials outside the traditional history books. It focused on exploring the development of Chinese historiography and evolution of Chinese historiography trend.Du Weiyun and Xie Baocheng are famous China historiography research scholars form Taiwan and mainland. Their three-volume "History of Chinese Historiography," epitomized their understanding of Chinese historiography. Two books are important summary of Chinese historiography at the beginning of21century. Du Weiyun and Xie Baocheng’s Chinese His-toriography not only inherit the merit of ancient historical tradition, but also pulsating the so-cial and the new era, historians thought, analysis and criticism of the history book, absorbing a lot of achievements in modern historiography. Academic study of their "History of Chinese Historiography" has just begun. Because they have different historical backgrounds and re-seach systems, so combining the two systems historiography research background and two books can reflect the feature of their "History of Chinese Historiography" better. This method can also help us to understand the new development and achievements of Chinese historiog-raphy compilation and research in the new century. At present, this work has not been done.This study focuses on three sides. For one thing, by comparing Xie Baocheng and Du Weiyun’s academic background and research experience to explore their overall understand-ing of Chinese historiography, such as version of history, periodization of history, histori-cal position. Historian is the main part of history development. For another thing, comparing their selection of historians, understanding of historians’ thought, and the relationship be-tween historians and historians’ time, and so on. By this way, discussing their focus and dif-ferent thought of history of Chinese historiography. Thus showing a different perspective for the Chinese historiography to refract different connotation. Specifically, an example of their different is periodization of history. Du Weiyun compared east with west based on a longer period of time, in order to compare the historiography development of west and east. In the meantime, he tend to view the era and the history as a whole, and take into account the specific characteristics of each era of Chinese history. Xie Baocheng’s study which based on the clue of Chinese historiography and the development of compilation series to understand Chinese history. Finally, through a comparative study, we summarized the basic characteris-tics of the two Chinese Historiography and understanding.With Zhang Xuecheng’s argument, we say that Du Weiyun’s work near "yuan er shen" and Xie Baocheng’s book close to" fang yi zhi ". Xie Baocheng has particular description and discussion on almost all aspects of Chi-nese historiography. We can say the book has a comprehensive content. Du Weiyun want to make a forecast to Chinese Historiography, so he compared historiography between China and the West. By this comparison, we can see the advantages and disadvantages of Chinese historiography and Chinese historiography’s position in the world. And those are help to dis-cuss the future development of Chinese historiography.Their "History of Chinese Historiography" are important exploration of Chinese histori-ography in the new century. Their study follow the trend of Chinese historiography.
