A Study On The Chinese Historiography Of TU'WEI-YUN

Weiyun Tu has produced many works, which involved with the General History of China, History of Chinese Historiography, Methodology of History, and Comparative History etc. However, he has made major achievements on his final academic field—the Historiography in Chinese. Unfortunately, the related studies are very few.In contemporary society, with the increasing frequent with the international academia, the "westernization" on Chinese Historiography gets more and more serious. Not only that, the western historians had some misunderstandings on traditional Chinese History, such as denied China had its own historiography. So, in order to clear the air, and promote Chinese Historiography to the world, we not only need introduce the experience of Western Historiography actively, but more important is express the essence of Chinese Historiography, which demand Chinese scholars to study Chinese Historiography energetically. Weiyun Tu puts his main energy on Comparative History and Methodology of History, so his research on Chinese Historiography has some distinct features, such as too comparative and theoretical.Furthermore, in the process of research Chinese Historiography, he also pay attention to comparatively studying on Chinese and Western historiography. First of all, he examines the attitudes and cognitions of western historians on Chinese Historiography, and then explains the interest contains of western historians in detail; lastly, compare the difference between them and introduce Chinese Historiography to western academia. In fact, it is an important method for deepening the research of Chinese Historiography. Therefore, to understand the research veins of Weiyun Tu, studying the reason, principle and content of his comparative history is very useful. Besides, Weiyun Tu also promotes his practice-oriented thought actively, advocates the literary style on writing history and hopes to use history to change the custom and fortune of society.
