As a traditional inhabited space, the ancient village is not only a portrayal of China’sthousands of years of farming culture, but it is also the testimony of human in harmonywith nature. At present, it’s lack of theoretical guidance to protect the ancient village. It’sto be settled urgently that how to correctly deal with the ancient villages in therelationship between development and protection. This paper tries to analysis of theancient village spatial and temporal evolution of the process and its drive mechanism. Andthen it summaries ancient village protection principles to be followed and feasiblemeasures to be implemented.There are a lot of ancient villages in Wu’an, which have regional characteristics.Ancient villages of Wu’an, with a very deep cultural intension, recorded throughout thecourse of development of the Chinese nation. It has not only witnessed the developmentof China’s agricultural civilization, but also inherited regional cultural traditions.This paper selects the ancient village of Wu’an as carrier, and selects villages form ofspatial and temporal evolution as research subjects. It expounds the evolution process ofthe formation, development of the settlement pattern systematically, and try to explore thevillage form of space-time evolution of the law. Then it analyses the evolution of thedriving mechanism. Finally, it advice on protection and development for ancient villagesThrough field research, information access, and comprehensive analysis, divided thewhole history into seven historical stages. It Analyses ancient villages evolution fromnatural and geographical conditions, socio-economic conditions, the state policy. And itanalyses distribution characteristics of the villages of each stage. Moreover, it summarizesthe ancient villages form of space-time evolution of the trend and the law.Combined with GIS spatial analysis, it explores the evolution of the drivingmechanism in ancient and modern times. The main method is to select the elevation,rivers, roads and other elements of a buffer.In order to make the ancient villages of Wu’an to embark on the path of sustainabledevelopment, it determines the specific content and principles of protection, and proposesprotective measures.
