The original meaning of bottom is the bottom layer of buildings, referring to the lowest strata of society in the social structure. In the process of urbanization in China, the problem of taking shelter and settling down for people at the bottom are prominent, and the sense of space owned by the bottom is also prominent. This thesis focuses on the study of space and the bottom narrative of contemporary China, conducting a theoretical exploration on the present literature space and the bottom space, social space relation, rethinking through bringing individual experience into the bottom collective fate, and trying to understand today’s China. In the first chapter of this thesis, we will discuss the legitimacy of knowledge about Chinese contemporary bottom narration under the spatial dimension. The battle for space in the realistic society make the theoretical circle increasingly pay a lot of attention on space, the focus grow into the noticeable spatial turn by from the inside out. A new understanding about space became an important perspective which can used to re-recognize the imbalance and a variety of possibility of history by contemporary critical theorist. Lefebvre think Space is a kind of production and product which is an existence of dialectical used for exchange and consumption. It is the support of economic and social relations. Foucault’s theory of Heterotopia enlightens us to consider anew on world from the perspective of negativity and borderline. The bottom lived in edge of economic and social relations; it has a special relation with the space. Chinese contemporary bottom narration keenly felt the depressed state of survival state. Choosing the bottom narrative under the spatial dimension as the research object is conductive to re-recognize the bottom space, and to treat literature from the whole space by jumping out of the story space in text. The second chapter carries on the first chapter, giving the bottom and bottom narration a query and reposition. The concept of bottom has multiple paradoxes, such as the relation between the bottom and dirty, the fall of moral; the underlying contradictions in bottom itself; the paradox between revolutionary role and hegemony cycle; the paradox of the concept of bottom strengthening the social injustice; and the paradox between expression and being expressed. Although there are many paradoxes about the bottom, we can’t cancel the bottom narrative. The bottom narrative focused on china’s vulnerable groups, delivered hope. So, despite the effect of the bottom narrative, through multiple expression illusions, the meaning of bottom can generate constantly. In another words, all the bottom narrative have its rationality. The third chapter tries to analyze the important role of bottom narrative in breaking the homogeneity illusion about physical space and cultural space, giving a reposition to bottom narrative from the spatial dimension. The bottom narrative should pay attention to the uneven distribution of space resources, reflect the non-freedom space consumption among bottom group, remaining us to truly understand the world by the diversity, negativity and opposition in bottom narrative.Chapter three and chapter four try to make a detailed exploration to the telling story space of bottom narrative text. Referring to Gabriel Zoran’s narrative space theory, we make a critical reflection to literature space and bottom space mainly in inductive way. The third chapter tries to comb the spatial makers which contain the different enclosed space and the fragmentation of ambiguous space described in bottom narrative text, thus we can draw a space picture about bottom narrative. Chapter four will continue to make a further study on bottom narration, considering it as a spatial practice of the bottom. thus,we can discuss the spatial flowing of the bottom and space-time space in bottom narrative, in the end we can structure out several samples about spatial motion; such as the interaction between urban and rural areas, the travel between different cities, the bottom being covered under urban assimilation and the poetic representation of daily life space. At this point, my thesis not only saw the non-ideal living status of the bottom from the geological space form which shower as a static entity, the unequal class and the sense of alienation between space and people from the metaphor of spatial inequality, but also saw the drifting fate and the survival paradox from the space as a space-time body. Thus, considering the space as a very important part in social relations, through the way of paying attention to differences and returning to daily life, we could find a way to breakout the spiritual dilemma.
