Joint attention refers to the process of the coordination focus of self and another,is a kind of ability to social cognition. Joint attention generally divided intoresponding to joint attention(RJA) and initiating joint attention(IJA). Because of jointattention, infants can expand communication environment, promote the interactionswith the surrounding environment, better adapt to the environment, avoiding danger.They also can be in interaction with others, understand others’ intentions, makingmore effective communication and social interaction with others. In this study wesummarized the previous studies of joint attention, and put forward the researchproblem of this study based on the previous studies. This study uses the overseasmature measurement tools of infants’ joint attention–The Nonverbal CommunicationScales (ESCS) to measure the twenty infants of9-24months in a village of the southof Henan province. Through the study of joint attention, we will describe thedevelopment characteristics of joint attention of rural infants in China. The behaviorindexes of RJA and IJA have carried on the detailed video observation, andpsychology experts and graduate students in the field assess joint attention behavioraccording to the behavior coding. It is concluded that the related data, then statisticalanalysis, and conclude the results of the study, the conclusion is as follows:1.The emergency time of joint attention in rural infants is about12months,whichis inconsistence to that of the infants in city,and3months later.2. The development of RJA in rural infants of9-24months gradually increasewith age, and the development of IJA) also gradually increase with age,but after18months gradually decrease. Generally the development of joint attention in ruralinfants of9-24months gradually increase with age.3. The development of RJA and IJA in rural infants of9-24months isinconsistence, and RJA is better to IJA; But RJA and IJA are correlating.
