Study On Lu Xun’s Translation Thoughts In The Perspective Of Eco-translatology

Eco-translatology is a new and fresh approach in terms of theoretical description of and solutions to translation from the angle of Ecology. The momentum-gaining trans-disciplinary framework is intended to pitch in with a new perspective with regard to translation studies. The initial introduction of Mr. Hu Gengshen’s Adaptation and Selection theory brought about wide and heated debate while in the recent Eco-translatology theory, detailed interpretations on key concepts including "dynamic balance","multi-dimensional integration","coexistence in textual ecology", and "translator responsibility" etc, are provided.To what extent is the theory able to make interpretations of the extensive translation phenomena? What role would it play in the description and observation of translation trends in a given historical and social background? Would translation as textual transplant cause any degree of mutation in the target environment? And what hints could we draw from such studies? These are some of the most important questions that motivate the study, and that would be explored in the study.Lu Xun as a translator is noted for his purposeful strategy of foreignization in the translation process. He made motivated choices, adopted risky methods, and had a noble plan to transform the Chinese society through cross-cultural translation. From the perspective of eco-translatology, interpretations would be given to Lu Xun’s redefinition of translation and the evolution of China’s translation ecology, based on specific discussions on source text selection, adaptation to target textual ecology and fulfillment of translator’s responsibility, etc. The thesis intends to claim that Lu Xun’s translation thoughts and unique mode of translation could be sufficiently explained in the framework of Eco-translatology. And his translation philosophy is one evident justification.
