| With the improvement of China’s international status,Chinese classics contain rich Chinese culture and are increasingly sought after by scholars at home and abroad, which plays a very important role in spreading Chinese culture and enriching world culture. However, most western readers contact with Chinese culture through the fragmentation of news media, newspapers and magazines,so,foreign readers can’t realize the wisdom behind Chinese culture and the guiding significance to today’s society. To understand Chinese culture fundamentally, reading the essence of Chinese classics is a wise choice. In order to make foreign readers appreciate the essence of the classics,it is essential to improve the quality of the English translation of the classics, and the translator is required to accurately translate the contents of the Chinese classics. From the perspective of eco-translation,this paper studies the adaptation and selection to the English translation of classical books, mainly taking the examples of the Mean, the Analects of Confucius and Mencius.Through the study of the original text of the classics and the English version of this book,it is found that the translation of translators at different historical stages has different characteristics of the times. In order to better convey the essence of the classics, translators need to adapt to the ecological environment in translation and make corresponding adaptation and selection.Because the translator’s growth environment, religious belief, language ability are very different, translators need to adapt and choose their own roles; There are also very different expressions in English and Chinese,so we also need to consider the adaptation and choice of language;Translation is not only a transcoding between Chinese and English, but also a transfer between different cultures. Therefore, translators need to take into account the differences of cultural connotations between China and West, and make adaptation and selection to culture. To sum up,the study of how translators adapt and selection according to the ecological environment in the translation of Chinese classics not only provides a new perspective for the study of Chinese classics, but also facilitates the dialogue between different countries and cultures, thus enriching the culture and language of the target countries. |
