In the history of human civilization, we’ve all witnessed an emphasis on moral education both in China and western countries. With the continuous development and practice of moral education, both China and Western countries have formed their own unique ideas of moral education. Among these moral education ideologies, many are agreed between China and Western countries, while some are distinct from each other. From those points both sides agreed, the first one is both China and Western countries stress the importance of moral education, and believe that moral education should be conduct an early stage, so as to lay a good foundation for the formation of personal virtue. Secondly, in the process of moral education, China and Western countries both emphasize the role of moral models and moral practice. From distinct points, the first one is the purpose of moral education between China and Western countries differ from each other. China’s moral education mainly sticks to cultivating noble personalities, while Western countries concentrate on formulating people’s civic awareness. Secondly, on the issue of moral education, China stresses the moral supremacy and moral education’s priority, while Western countries hid into the promotion function of knowledge to morality and advocate to facilitate morality by the means of wisdom. On educational issues of virtue and interests, China emphasizes on ethical and moral education, while Western countries follow the ethical principles of utilitarianism and believe that the achievement personal interests is the foundation of morality. On the methods of moral education, China’s moral education expects Individuals to train their hearts, advocate the adoption of self-examination and other ways to improve their own morality. However, Western countries pay much attention to contacting with the outside, for instance, Western countries especially emphasize on free competition and as a rational person, citizens should improve their own personality in the competition. China and Western countries are different on the issue of religion and moral education. Chinese moral education and religious education is basically isolated; while Western countries have always been attaching great importance to the participation of religion, religious education has been a very important form of moral education. Finally, the comparison of moral education between China and the Western countries is of great reference significance for contemporary China’s moral education and moral construction. For the moral education of China and Western countries, we should inherit, learn to, develop and innovate on the basis of criticism. Secondly, in the process of moral education, we should focus on the role of moral practice, and give rise to the resultant force of family, school and social education, so as to truly foster moral people successfully, In addition to, we should emphasis on the moral function of psychological counseling.
