To know well a kind of language, you should not only learn its pronunciation, meaning and grammar, but also its deeper cultural connotation. As a Chinese national common language, in addition to having something special in the shape of Chinese characters, pronunciation, grammar and pragmatics, Chinese is also the record and inheritor of the five thousand years Chinese civilization. Therefore, when teaching Chinese as a foreign language, the teachers should pay attention to the culture teaching, besides the language knowledge and skills teaching.This paper mainly discusses the application of Chinese traditional animation in teaching Chinese as a foreign language in class. In order to explore the unique advantages in language and culture teaching of Chinese as a foreign language, we use Chinese traditional animation’s difference with moden cartoon and other visual form, its concise language, lively content and vivid form with strong Chinese culture charm.This paper mainly contains five parts.The first part is the introduction, mainly discussing the research background, purpose and significance of this topic, by combing the existing research results on the related proposition. This part also briefly describes the research content, the method and innovation point. The second part of this thesis defines related concepts, including the definition of cartoon, the definition and the development of Chinese traditional animation. At the same time, this part builds up theoretical framework to the follow-up discussion.The third part is the analysis of the traditional China cartoon value in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Based on the special charm of Chinese traditional animation, this part analyses the value of it on a lot of aspects, such as building classroom atmosphere, teaching language knowledge and skills, cultural awareness and so on.By combining theory and practice, the fourth part of this paper designs a specific plan of the animated cartoon "Little Tadpole Looking for Mom", basing on the analysis of teaching resources of this animation. Then we discuss the application of China traditional animation in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.The fifth part is the reflections on the application of the Chinese traditional animation in foreign language classroom teaching, mainly including the current shortcomings and what should be paid attention to in the process of practice.
