The modern Chinese language is extremely sensitive to various kinds of new formations. The abbreviations of the names of international organizations are one of those new formations. An abbreviation is a noun, which consists of the compressed words that form an original phrase, or the compressed components of an original compound word. The highly frequent usage of these abbreviations in the modern Chinese language indicates their belonging to the standard. Nowadays the number of the abbreviations of the names of international organizations shows the tendency to increase. However, the review of the scientific literature on the topic showed, that the problems of this phenomenon in the modern Chinese language, as well as strategies of translation of the abbreviations hasn’t been properly developed yet. In this paper we identify the main features of the abbreviation in the modern Chinese language; establish the translation algorithm of the abbreviations of the names of international organizations in the Chinese language; suggest the teaching methods of the phenomenon of abbreviations of the names of international organization to Russian students.The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter introduces the main preconditions for abbreviation and the major abbreviation models in the Russian and European languages; it also studies the problem of the relationship between the sound and the meaning of an abbreviation. The content of the second chapter includes the analysis of the specifics of the abbreviation and the main methods of abbreviation in the Chinese language, as well as the factors, that influence the process of abbreviation in the modern Chinese language. In the third chapter author analyses the major abbreviation methods in the Chinese language; studies the their peculiarities; develops the stages of translation of the abbreviations of the names of international organizations; suggests learning strategies to the students and teaching strategies to the teachers. The conclusion part includes a summary of the text of the thesis and suggests the points which were not completely studied and the places which require further research.
