Research Into Innovation And Application Of Longhui Huayao Cross-stitch Patterns

With the development of globalization and modernization, the living environment and the life style of human beings have dramatically changed. However, traditional cultures and especially intangible cultures are facing extinction. As an important part of traditional culture, intangible culture as well as its protection and inheritance is becoming an inexhaustible source for the development of modern culture. Furthermore, it is also a solid foundation for national creativity and coherence. This research is based on firsthand material obtained from field surveys, which uses the theory of iconology and semiology, and the dynamic inheritance methods of intangible cultural heritage, takes the state-level intangible cultural heritage of Huayao cross-stitch as an example.First of all, this research will study the theme of folk custom, the pattern of original style, the color of vast contrast, the figure of aesthetic freedom and the cultural meaning of life from the analysis of traditional Huayao cross-stitch patterns, using historical narrative technique combined with logical analysis and case studies, along with comprehensive discussion. Second, this research aims to enhance the appreciation of the spiritual significance and aesthetic value of Huayao cross-stitch while preserving the traditional and original primitive style of Huayao cross-stitch patterns by applying the method of "refining and extraction","deconstruction and reconstruction" to the classic elements. In this way, the traditional Huayao cross-stitch patterns could be redesigned with its traditional characteristics preserved. Third, we can integrate Huayao cross-stitch patterns into the modern daily lives naturally. By use of the traditional pick-embroidery method and the artistic design means, we can apply Huayao cross-stitch patterns in decoration, daily necessities, Huayao native products and modern dress designs.By use of the dynamic inheritance of intangible culture, we can link traditional culture with modern culture naturally and allow the power of the traditional culture to be active. In that way, intangible culture heritage can be infused into modern lives. Besides, people will have more opportunities to learn about intangible cultural heritage and appreciate the elegance the traditional culture. Moreover, more people will realize that safeguarding the intangible cultural heritage is protecting the essence of culture, that is, the life of our country, and will contribute faithfully to the national cultural heritage. In addition, more and more people will have the cultural consciousness to contribute to the construction of our shared spiritual home.
