Research On The Understratum Narration Of Chi Zijian’s Fictions

On the Chinese contemporary literature,Chi Zijian is forging ahead on the road of literature creation in the way characterized by herself independently for about30years. During these years of novel writing, she still care deeply about their hometown-Northeast Arctic.She had stopped describing the ordinary life of the people who lived on the bottom layer of life. Although having tasted the hardships of life, experiencing the misfortunes and sufferings, they still continue their lives with hope and persistence. Their attitudes about cherishing life and disregarding miseries make us see their unyielding soul and upward spiritual pursuit. Chi Zijian’s promotion of the under stratum narration not only shows underlying original life, but also includes her exploration of the complexity about human nature who live with sufferings.The first chapter of this thesis focuses on the classification of the portraits of the lower class in Chi Zijian’s novels.They are divided into two categories:people who stay in the countryside and those who live on the edge of the urban.They are not only soullessness in the life of materials, but also in spirit.The second chapter of this thesis emphasizes on the survival predicament and imperfect life of the lower class people. It is mainly embodied in the following four aspects:they are looking forward to the understanding of their lonely life, the comfort of depressed life, and settlement after upheavals.The first two chapters are the revealing of the "protagonists" and "events" in the under stratum narration of Chi Zijian’s fictions.Chi Zijian see the spiritual barriers among people, also see the contradictions and puzzling when they face with the ideal and the reality.Her creations mainly describe the people’s basic living conditions,in order to realize the lonely, wandering and depression when we survive in this world.Her creations give attention to the defects of the human heart.The third part is to explore Chi Zijian’s focus on the people from the lower class from her personal affection and the corresponding great compassion. Chi Zijian grows up in the polar region,where is always covered with ice and snow all the year. The childhood life in the arctic village made her familiar with the whole messy life of the lower class in the society, and she has love and compassion for her compatriots in the bottom. So she can present the readers a vivid world of the lower class people. At the Same time, the gender identity of women provides her a very good perspective to write this kind of life. The weak position in the male society and born with strong maternity make her go into the inner hearts of those people with equal mind, to format the narrative characteristics between female identity and people who live in the lower class.
