Translation is a bridge between different languages and cultures, and tourism text translation is no exception. Because of many differences between languages and cultures, it is a great challenge to translate tourism text from Chinese into English, even to get a high-quality translation text. However, Recently the C-E translation of tourism text is playing an increasingly important role in the field of research due to the mundane benefits it brings. While some translation texts may become meaningless due to the violation of the target language rules, or may offend the target language readers because of the violation of social cultural norms.Many facts suggest that it is culture that makes the tourism resources more attractive. With the dissemination of Shanxi Merchants culture in the contemporary society, the culture’s heritage and development become more and more realistic and meaningful. The Skopos determines the translation strategies and methods during the translation process, and it is also the scale to measure the quality of target texts. Three rules of Skopos theory offer a functional and target-oriented perspective for the C-E translation of tourism materials, thus it should be applied to guide the C-E translation of tourism materials. Regarding its great significance, the author firstly discusses all sorts of existing translation problems encountered in the C-E translation process of Shanxi Merchants’Compound Culture Materials from the perspective of Vermeer’s Skopos Theory. In this thesis the author classified the translation errors into four kinds, such as lexical mistakes, pragmatic failures, cultural translation errors and many other errors. Secondly, the author analyzes how to deal with these difficulties and tries to sum up some effective specific strategies and methods in the C-E translation of Tourist Materials. Finally the author raises many respective practical translation methods and tries to explore the applicability of Skopostheorie to the C-E translation of tourist materials.All in all, the expected objectives and the limitations of the study on this thesis are put forward and concluded in this paper. It is a good way to better promote and spread the dominant culture of Shanxi by finding more high-quality C-E tourist materials. The author sincerely hopes that this thesis will enlighten translators of tourism texts by introducing many valuable remarks and make a little contribution to the career of the translation of Shanxi Merchants’ Compound Culture Materials in Shanxi province.
