Nowadays, people can get access to the books on the Bermuda Triangle, however, most of the books just record a small number of typical cases and usually don't analyze these cases deeply.Into the Bermuda Triangle,a book written by Gian Quasar, mainly records most of the cases that have taken place in the Bermuda Triangle in the past two centuries and the researchers' exploration and research on the causes of these cases, thus providing supernatural lovers around the world with an opportunity to deeply get the knowledge of the Bermuda Triangle. In order to help Chinese readers better understand the secrets behind Bermuda's mysterious events and to stimulate their desire for scientific discovery, the translator tries to provide a Chinese version for some important parts of the book and thus the translation practice was carried out accordingly. The texts selected for this translation practice report are Chapters I and II of Into the Bermuda Triangle, which belong to documentary texts. In view of the fact that Chapters I and II of Into the Bermuda Triangle contain a large number of compound-complex sentences whose complicated structure has brought some difficulty to this translation practice, and that Skopos theory, which considers translation as a purposeful intercultural communicative action, helps guide the translation of documentary text, the translator intends to use this theory for reference to probe into the translation strategies for different compound-complex sentences in Chapters I and II of the aforementioned book to better convey the information abundant in the source text. This translation practice report is mainly divided into five chapters: the first chapter is the introduction to translation projects, the second chapter is the translation process and the third chapter briefly introduces Skopos theory and compound-complex sentences. In the fourth chapter, the author according to the number of clauses divides compound-complex sentences into two types,i.e.,compound-complex sentences with one subordinate clause and compound-complex sentences with two or more subordinate clauses. In terms of the context of these sentences, the translator puts forward such translation strategies as “linear translation, recasting, insertion, and division” for compound-complex sentences with one subordinate clause, and “linear translation, recasting, synthesis” for compound-complex sentences with two or more subordinate clauses. In the fifth chapter, the author summarizes the translation practice and points out the gains and limitations in the translation process, hoping to provide some help for the later researchers.
