After centuries of exploration and development, Chinese watercolor paintingnow has gradually entered a period of relative stability, the grown of watercolorpainting groups in different regions enrich the watercolor creative themes and styles.At the same time, numbers of watercolor painting with extremely regional specialtiesand distinct characters appear, reflect the aesthetic features combined with theadvantages of western painting and the essence of Chinese painting, and on this basis,carry out the innovation and try on various concepts and techniques, broaden ideasand direction for the development of Chinese watercolor painting. Shandongwatercolor painting is an indispensable force of the development of Chinesewatercolor painting, it continuously grow under the influence of Qilu culture, withthe development of Chinese watercolor painting, experience a process of continuousexploration and improvement, and finally form its own unique aestheticcharacteristics. Shandong is a traditional oriental nation, the people are simple andhonest, and the cultural heritage is rich. Combined the spirit of traditional aesthetics,Shandong watercolorists apply Shandong’s culture to their own watercolor creations,make them have the vast, atmospheric, inclusive, heavy artistic personality just likethe ocean, and form its distinctive aesthetic features.Through three parts, this paper mainly discusses formation and developmentcontext of Shandong watercolor painting, makes longitudinal analysis of itscharacteristics and horizontal comparison of the nation, draw a clear aestheticfeatures face of Shandong watercolor painting, and the advantages and disadvantages in the development process. From the influence of historical background and culturalbackground, the first part sorts out formation and development overview ofShandong watercolor painting. The second part reflects the aesthetic characteristicsof Shandong watercolor painting through longitudinal analysis on the characteristicsof style, subject matter and techniques in Shandong watercolor painting. The thirdpart further elaborates the aesthetic characteristics similarities and differences ofShandong watercolor painting and other regions with high development level inwatercolor painting, such as Northeast, Hubei, and Guangzhou etc. The fourth partmainly considers the future development of Shandong watercolor painting, not justensures its own merits, but also thinks about the existing insufficient and theimprovements, seeks the technique that showing the soul of nation and havingregional characteristics in the future creations of Shandong watercolor painting, andmakes aesthetic features of Shandong watercolor standing in the ranks of thenational watercolor painting in a more specific gesture.
