The university period is a crucial stage for person who transforms formadolescence to adulthood. Establishing ego-identity is an important developmental taskduring this period, it not only relates to the person’s mental health and social adaptation,but also has a far-reaching influence on the psychological development. Existingresearch shows that emotional autonomy is an important factor influencing ego-identityand parenting style has an important impact on the development of emotional autonomyand ego-identity.The aim of this study is to explore the relationship among parenting style,emotional autonomy and ego-Identity of college students. The study used questionnairesto examine1000students. Here are the main conclusions:1. Mostly college students are in the middle ego-identity status and fewer in thestatus of identity achievement, identity foreclosure and identity diffusion. There are nosignificant gender differences in three dimensions of ego-identity. There are significantgrades differences in present self-commitment and the willing of futureself-commitment. There are no significant area differences in three dimensions ofego-identity.2. On the emotional autonomy aspects of college students, there are gendersignificant differences in the total score of emotional autonomy, non-dependency onauthority and self-confidence. There are significant grades differences inself-confidence. There are no significant area differences in the total score of emotionalautonomy and the five dimensions of emotional autonomy.3. On the parenting style aspects of college students, there are gender significantdifferences in parents rejection and parents overprotection. There are significant gradesdifferences in father rejection and parents emotional warmth. There are significantarea differences in parents emotional warmth and parents overprotection.4. There are significant correlations between parenting style and ego-identity;There are significant correlations between emotional autonomy and ego-identity; Thereare significant correlations between parenting style and emotional autonomy. 5. Parenting style influences ego-identity by emotional autonomy, emotionalautonomy plays an intermediary role between parenting style and ego-identity.
