The currency system in Qing Dynasty uses a parallel incomplete Silver Copper-basedsystem which had lasted for200years since Ming Dynasty. Silver and copper are both usedas currenct materials but they don’t have clear legal transfer relationship. Comparing withsilver, Qing Dynasty pay more attention to casting and circulation and people used coppercoins in daily life.The government had a strict way to administrate copper coins, which is anevidence of nation’s centralized currency systems. In early age of Qing Shunzhi, the empireset three mints inTaiyuan, Yanghe, Datong in Shanxi province which is quite near from theCapital of the empire, to set for supporting cost of military in border. The currency mintschanged frequently until Yongzheng seven year (1729A.D.) in which there are only one mintin every province. The Taiyuan mint changed name to Baojin Mint. After that, the coins weremade sporadically from then on however coins are made in Yongzheng, Qianlong, Jiaqing,Daoguang, Xianfeng, Tongzhi, Guangxu stages until Guangxu twenty-six year (1900A.D.)during which all currency mints were repealed. Since Bao Jin Mint was former Taiyuangovernment mint of in (1645) Shunzhi years, of which history of building coins wasthroughout almost the entire Qing Dynasty. The copper used in Baojin mint was imported andhad good quality and private building workshop was few in Shanxi province. All thesecontributes to the prosperity of Shanxi province. Later on due to the huge loss, the Baojinmint used iron instead. Meanwhile, Baoquan Mint set its branches mint in Pingding, Shanxi.It used iron to cast coins which is harmful to economy so they were shut down in one year.Bao Jin casting drum basically ended in Xianfeng age, and replaced by a foreign element.With other currencies such as the modern nature of silver, copper, tickets and other moneyinto circulation, Tongzhi and Guangxu though tried to recover money casting system, butcannot change the system the fate of the money system on the verge of collapse. However, thecoins in the late Shanxi has a prominent feature that was when casting in other provinces,only Shanxi province alone cannot cast the unused Coins until in1918, Yan Xishan coppercasting Shanxi. Shanxi became the last province to use the money made. In early Republic ofChina, forbidden coins in neighboring provinces inflexed to Shanxi in large mount, whichbecome a unique phenomenon in the history of the modern currency.In Chapter one, it introduces the overall knowledge of the three currency mint in Shanxiprovince and then talks about the basic building scenarios from Yongzheng to Xianfengstages based on the building process in Baojin mint. In Chapter two, it introduces the buildingmaterials and casting system in Baojin Mint. In chapter three, it talks about from Xianfeng tolthe end of the Qing, how money system changes in this period. It especially focused onBaoJin Mint’s prominent features in this period, reflecting the reign currency at this time oftransition to modern historical process. In chapter four, traffic management is introduced inBaojin mint, including personnel, production processes, etc., drawbacks generated during theanalysis and management, smooth production process determines whether or not the rise andfall of the fate BaoJin Mint, as well as private casting always plagued the Qing Dynastyprivate sales problems. It also talks about Baojin mint produced by gradually unsustainable situation, analyze its historical period in which, in modern monetary system has beenshaken importance of money in the currency. And Baojin Mint as part of the feudal howeventually disappears. In chapter fiver, it combined with the entire history of the track BaojinMint analyzed the problem of modernization of the Qing Dynasty in Shanxi. And it alsocompares Shanxi made money with other provinces’ money as reflected in its salient features.
