The Western statist notion of had extremely profound influence the historiography ofIndia, this paper attempts to discuss the change of india’s historiography which westernscholars in nineteenth century under the influence of Western statist notion. This paper firstlyresearches on the evolution of the western historical ideas and the emerge of the statist notion.Then discusses the orthodox histories of India in the Oriental Despotism conception innineteenth century and early twentieth century Western. This chapter separate from JamesMill’s The History of British India, Hegel’s The Philosophy of History and The CambridgeHistory of India. How to explain and describe the history of India through these threerepresentative works on Oriental Despotism conception. Finally, this chapter discusses theevolution of india’s historiography and the formation of the new histories of India which TheNew Cambridge History of India as the representative, which is in the late twentieth Centuryand later under the concept of the Segmentary State and the Theatre State.
